Understanding ERA

What is ERA?
Earned Run Average measures how many earned runs a pitcher allows per 9 innings pitched.
Formula:
ERA = (Earned Runs × 9) ÷ Innings Pitched
What's a Good ERA?
• Elite: Under 2.50
• Excellent: 2.50-3.49
• Good: 3.50-3.99
• Average: 4.00-4.49
Context Matters:
League averages vary by era, level of play, and ballpark factors.

Advanced Metrics

WHIP:
Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched. Measures baserunners allowed. Lower is better.
K/9:
Strikeouts per 9 innings. Measures dominance and swing-and-miss stuff.
K/BB Ratio:
Strikeouts to walks ratio. Shows control and command. Above 3.0 is good.
Quality Start:
6+ innings pitched with 3 or fewer earned runs. Measures consistency.
